We hope you had a fantastic festive break and we can’t wait to bring you even more laughter and fun in 2019! We’ve got plenty of shows and workshops coming up in January and the year ahead that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face…

ComedySportz Chorley

Coming up at The Waterside we’ve got our New Year, New Games special in January, followed by our Valentine’s special in February and our March Madness special in, err, March. We’ve also got shows at The Way in Atherton this month and we’ll be back at Ramsbottom Civic Hall in February!

If that’s not enough comedy for you’ve then there’s Improv Mullet and the return of the New Adelphi Comedy Night.

Make A Resolution To Have Fun

There are still spaces available on our first batch of workshops for 2019 but they’re filling up fast. So if you’re thinking about making a New Years Resolution to try something new for 2019 don’t delay and book today!

Whether you’re a performer looking to develop new skills for stage, rehearsals and auditions, a professional looking to build confidence for networking and presentations or someone who just wants to rediscover play in a safe and supportive environment, our courses have a little something for everyone!

We are Manchester’s longest running comedy courses with classes in Improvisation, Stand Up Comedy and Sketch Writing. Our workshops are fun, friendly and affordable. All of our workshops facilitators are accredited by CSz Worldwide.


Foundation in Improv

No previous experience necessary. Workshops cover the core skills and tenets of Improvised performance; Yes And, Listening, Character, Story, Objects, Scene Work and Games. The course has plenty to offer whether you’re looking to learn new performance skills, develop confidence, work on your communication and listening or just want to meet new people in a fun and friendly environment. Each session will focus on a different skill area with a mix of solo and group exercises with a keen emphasis on play.

The course runs Saturdays 1-3pm for 8 weeks commencing 16th February 2019. Workshops are held in the main theatre space of the Kings Arms, Salford. The full cost of the course is £100 (£90 concessions).

Intermediate Improv

ComedySportz 8 Week Foundation in Improv or Equivalent Course a pre-requisite. An expanded curriculum of fun tools to add to your skillset. This course has been designed with a rolling curriculum of workshops so you can take it multiple times without repeating a session. Previous workshops have covered everything from advanced scene and character work to improvised songs and rap. This course ends with a showcase night for family and friends.

The course runs Saturdays 3-5pm for 8 weeks commencing 16th February 2019. Workshops are held in the main theatre space of the Kings Arms, Salford. The full cost of the course is £75.

We were delighted that our workshops featured in the Guardian last year. We think it’s really important to have play and fun in life and our workshops are a great way to inject a little of that into 2019!

Beginning Stand Up Comedy

No previous experience necessary. Whether you’re looking to start your onstage career, develop presentation skills or build confidence in public speaking in a fun and friendly environment you’ll find plenty to enjoy in this course. You’ll receive regular feedback on your material as we help you find and hone your unique comedic voice. Workshops cover everything from material generation to microphone technique and etiquette in a safe and supportive setting. This course ends with a showcase night for family and friends.

The course runs Saturdays 1-3pm for 8 weeks commencing 16th February 2019. Workshops are held in the studio theatre space of the Kings Arms, Salford. The full cost of the course is £105 (£95 concessions).

Sketch Writing

No previous experience necessary. Ever fancied yourself as the next best thing in comedy writing? This two day course will explore the various techniques needed to craft the finest comedy material for stage, screen and radio. Sessions cover everything from creating memorable characters to finding that killer punchline. Workshoppers also receive a free ComedySportz notebook and pen to jot down all your fantastic gags and ideas!

The course runs Wednesdays 7pm – 9pm for 4 weeks commencing 9th January 2019. Workshops are held in the snug at The Kings Arms, Salford. The full cost of the course is £50.

There’s no experience necessary as sessions covering everything from finding the perfect premise to crafting that killer punchline. Whether you’re a new or seasoned writer there’s something for everyone! Workshops will run Wednesdays 7-9pm for 4 weeks at The Kings Arms, Salford. The full cost of the course is just £50!

Sketch Writing Workshops Manchester

Christmas Comedy Family Friendly Improv

17th Birthday Highlights!

A special thank you to everyone that came to our Birthday shows at Waterside Arts and Chorley Little Theatre. Everyone had lots of fun and we got plenty of weird and wonderful suggestions and very funny audience volunteers.

As you can see in the photo above, it was a closely fought contest over at Chorley Little Theatre but ultimately the Chorley team was victorious yet again… that make 17 years unbeaten! However the highlight of the match was undoubtedly when the Manchester team played Game-A-Matic…


We’re approaching the end of 2018 but we still have a few shows left before the year is out. Tickets are going fast for our Improvised Pantomimes in December and we’ll be doing two special ComedySportz shows at The Piece Hall in Halifax.
