Workshops run Saturday Afternoons 2-4pm for 8 sessions in the rehearsal spaces in the New Adelphi Building at The University of Salford. Due to venue unavailability, there will be no workshop on the 14th February. The course will conclude Saturday 28th March. There are plenty of nearby paid parking options nearby and the building is just a short walk from Salford Crescent Station and several major bus routes.
There will be a joint showcase event at a venue/date TBA. To cover venue hire there is a small cost to general audiences (just £1) but this event is free to attend for workshoppers.

The most fun gym you'll go to in January! Work on those improv muscles and strengthen your core skills with this fun and friendly session.
Embrace the weird and the wonderful in this session. This class looks at how grounding surreal scenes and characters with relatable stakes, everyday problems and emotions can create fun and surprising juxtapositions. Even giant sea monsters have feelings!
Ever feel trapped in a scene that just won't end? This workshop will hone the instinct to recognise when a scene has completed and to end confidently, rather then over-playing or chasing extra buttons. The workshop will explore how to see when a game has reached it's peak or the scene has reached an emotional resolution.
How do we explore genre tropes in scenes and games? In this workshop, we will look at how to dive headfirst into our preferred genres but also, what we can do when we are faced with those lesson common genres we don't know much about. The session will examine how narrowing our focus can open us up to different moves.
Ever stood on the side lines of a scene, overthought an idea and missed your moment to join the fun? Being in the moment and catching lightning in a bottle requires speed and bravery. This workshop will look at ways we can overcome hesitation and get into the action of scenes and games!
This workshop will introduce you to improvised songs and singing games, identifying simple structures to give you the confidence to create funny, emotive and catchy songs. Don't worry, you don't need a good singing voice or any musical background to enjoy this class.
We are thrilled to welcome Stephanie to teach this workshop. She has had a remarkable career and was a musical director and teacher at Chicago's The Second City, ComedySportz and iO before moving the UK. We have loved having her play with the Totally Improvised Musical and this promises to be a very exciting workshop.
In this session we will find ways to play with how your emotional responses can drive a scene and connect more to your choices and scene partner(s). In a safe and supportive environment we'll explore how reactions can create elevate scenes and games in unexpected and meaningful ways.
It's the end of term and that means games. This session will put into practice the varying skills learned across the course and prepare for the Intermediate Showcase.
