Improvised Panto Returns for December 2019!

Our Improvised Panto returns this December for more festive fun the whole family can enjoy! There will be heroes, villains, romance and songs aplenty all inspired by your suggestions. There will be plenty of opportunities to join in the fun – oh yes there will – in this highly interactive show full of gags and games… and every villain is going to need a henchman!

Our improvised pantomimes are a loving pastiche of traditional panto tropes and characters and alternative to the same old stories. Players don’t know which character they’re going to be play or what the story is going to be about as our fairy god-referees take suggestions from the audience. We will have live musical accompaniment for this year’s shows as well which is something we’ve wanted for a while!

Book Now!

We’ll be bringing our improvised panto to The Palace in Longridge for the first time this December. It’ll be a night of laughter and mirth as players craft a pantomime adventure with only your suggestions and a sprinkling of fairy dust to guide them. We can’t wait to bring the show to the Palace (eat your heart out Cinderella) next month.

6th December 7.30pm

This is our third year of doing the pantomimes and they’ve been a sell-out success at Waterside Arts in previous years. We’re delighted to be back this year with four more shows so be sure to book your tickets now!

7pm 13th December

3pm 14th December(This will replace our regular ComedySportz 4 Tots show but still be aimed at an age 6 and under audience so book appropriately!)

5pm 14th December

7pm 14th December

Finally, we’ll also be performing an Adults Only version of the Improvised Pantomime on Saturday 7th December at The Kings Arms, Salford. This will replace our regular Improv Mullet Show. The show will start at 7.30pm!

These are currently our last booked in shows for 2019 so you won’t want to miss them! We’ll then return in January with new workshops and our New Year, New Games special at Waterside Arts!

End of Year Shows 2018

As the days grow colder, the clocks go back and the year draws to a close, we’ve still got plenty of shows and events to keep you entertained.

We’ve got two shows at the end of October, including our Halloween Special at The Waterside in Sale, whilst November sees us celebrate 17 years of laughter back at the venue where it all began, Chorley Little Theatre.

comedysportz improvised pantomime shows festive fun

In December, our Improvised Pantomime returns for more unscripted festive fun inspired by your suggestions and a sprinkling of fairy dust. There are plenty of chances to catch the show  as we’ll be bringing it to The Way Theatre in Atherton and Ramsbottom Civic Hall on December 8th and then back to The Waterside on 14th and 15th December.

Finally, we’re delighted to have been asked to perform two ComedySportz shows at The Piece Hall on the 22nd and 27th December after our guest appearance at their kids comedy show last year. These will be hour long shows so you’ll have plenty of time to spend in the shops and cafes of this fabulous venue. It’s a great way to spend a day in that gap between Christmas and New Year.

Tickets for all of these events are on sale now – book early to avoid disappointment! Tickets, times and dates for all of our upcoming shows can be found here.

And if all that isn’t enough comedy for you, we’ll also have Improv Mullet on the first Saturday of every month at The Kings Arms and New Adelphi Comedy Night on the first Tuesday of every month at The New Adelphi Studio at Salford University.

ComedySportz Summer Update and The Year Ahead!

Well, as the dust settles over another busy summer for ComedySportz, we wanted to do a quick round up of our summer and all the shows, workshops and events we’ve got coming up for the rest of the year!

JUNE

Way back in June – it feels like a long time ago to us anyway – a small team of our players took part in the ComedySportz World Championship in Los Angeles. Manchester’s all female team defeated ComedySportz Houston in a hotly contested match of wits and players also reffed the matches between Sacramento, LA, Cincinatti and Austin! Every year the World Championship renews our commitment to the core values of ComedySportz Worldwide: Collaboration, Inspiration, Gratitude and Fun.

Prior to the shows in LA, two of our players drove across the US to play with ComedySportz Boston (only 3 hours off the plane), Richmond, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, Quad Cities and St. Louis. It was an epic road trip and they loved getting to play with such dynamic and brilliantly funny people.

Didn’t know ComedySportz was part of a worldwide family of shows? There are over 25 ComedySportz teams across the world, with more set to join the CSz family in the coming year – hello ComedySportz Las Vegas!

The CSz Worldwide network gives us access to some of the best Improv skills and training which we channel into our own workshops and shows.

JULY

In July, CSzUK produced the play Auntie & Me for the Greater Manchester Fringe. This deliciously dark comedy was well-received by audiences and was an absolute delight to once again bring to the stage.

We were also delighted to have players from ComedySportz join ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ legend Tony Slattery for his new show Crimes Against Improv. It was a wild and unpredictable night and it was an absolute honour to play with him.

AUGUST

August saw ComedySportz Manchester return to the Edinburgh Fringe for the 11th year, performing two shows a day to fantastic crowds. We loved our time so much that we went back up at the end of the month with ComedySportz 4 Tots!

We’ve posted plenty about that recently but just want to say a big, heart-felt thank you to all of our audiences for your suggestions and laughter, to all of the staff at both of our venues Fireside and The Three Sisters, and Alex and the team at The Free Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We can’t wait to see you all again in 2019…

Special Guest for Improv Mullet

We’re delighted to announce that Nathan Jansen (io, Baby Wants Candy, ComedySportz Chicago) will be joining us for Improv Mullet at the Kings Arms on Saturday 1st September.

Fresh from playing to capacity crowds at the Edinburgh Fringe FestivNathan Jansen al, our team are ready to wow with quick-witted sketches and stories inspired by your suggestions.

Why Improv Mullet? Because it’s short gags and games in the first half and long sketches and scenes in the second half. Free admission to anyone with a genuine mullet.

If you’re looking to build on your Improv skills then don’t miss this opportunity to learn from one of the best! NEW YEAR! NEW GAMES! NEW WORKSHOPS!

Happy New Year from all of us at ComedySportz UK! It’s only a few weeks until our first shows and workshops of 2018 (and all on one day too) and we hope to see you there!

We finished 2017 with a sold-out Saturday of Improvised pantomimes and can’t wait to bring that show back bigger and better later this year. We were also featured by the Guardian in a great piece about the benefits of Improv Workshops on mental health. We’re delighted that our workshops have had such a positive effect on so many people, whatever their reasons for taking a course.

Workshops have a real benefit on those that take them.

We’re back at Waterside Arts 20th January with our now traditional New Year, New Games special as we try out a few new games as well as playing a few fan favourites. Earlier in the day we also have our first ComedySportz 4 Tots show with more BIG laughs for little kids. The week after we’re back at Ramsbottom Civic Hall for more all ages, all action, all improvised competitive comedy shenanigans!

Anyone with a GENUINE mullet gets in free.

Improv Mullet is moving to The Kings Arms in February to replace Let’s See What Happens. It’s a show that combines the best of our shortform and longform comedy shows and we hope to build the show over the course of the year. To help promote the show, anyone with a GENUINE mullet gets in for free!

Our workshops in Improv, Stand Up and Sketch Writing return this month as well. If you made a new years resolution to laugh more, to play more, to build confidence, learn new skills that can be used both on and off stage, sharpen your comedic voice, brush up on those presentation skills or just to make new friends then we have workshops for you! Spaces are filling up fast so be sure to visit our workshops page for more information today.

Whatever your reason for taking a class with us you’ll receive expert tutelage and have plenty of fun along the way!

We’ve got plenty planned for 2018 and can’t wait to share it all with you!
