Covid Comedy Online - Lockdown Laughs Update

We hope you're keeping safe and healthy during the ongoing lockdown. At ComedySportz we've resolved that, even when venues are closed, the show will go on...line! So far we're done over 20 online comedy shows with more planned to keep families entertained.

Online Comedy Shows

Our quaran-teams have been going toe to toe (from a safe distance) with quick-witted gags and games and we'd like to say a big thank you to everyone that has watched our shows. We also want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated so far to help support our players.

We're changing up our weekly schedule from the first week of May to allow players a bit more breathing space for things like going to the shops but we'll still be performing 3 shows a week. Our first Wednesday evening show will be a Manchester vs. Chorley match.

There is a certain irony that an event like this pandemic has in many ways brought us closer together with ComedySportz players worldwide. Even though we are apart, we are, in many ways, closer than ever. Our weekend matches have become international shows. Upcoming matches including Los Angeles, Dallas and Las Vegas! Visit our shows page for a full line-up of upcoming events.

Shows stream through our youtube channel - you can subscribe now and never miss a show. Don't forget to follow us on social media for regular updates.

T-Shirt Campaign

If you’ve been enjoying our lockdown laughs and want to wear some brand new ComedySportz merchandise whilst you’re at it, we’re running a T-Shirt campaign at mercht. We’ve tried to keep costs as low as possible. All proceeds will go to support our players – many of whom are full time performers that are currently out of work.

It's a way for us to give back to those who have donated to help support ComedySportz through this difficult time. The artwork was designed and drawn by ComedySportz UK player John Cooper. You can get your shirt here and thank you for continuing to support comedy online.

An Evening With ComedySportz...

At 7pm BST on Friday 1st May, a group of ComedySportz players will be "live" in conversation. It will be your chance to "Meet The Players" for some relaxed laughs. We'll be talking about ComedySportz UK's 18 year history, answering any questions you have and letting you judge us for how untidy our living rooms are. Join us for an evening of fun and laughter as we talk about our years performing to audiences across the world. This will be live on our youtube channel so don't forget to subscribe!

Online Improv Workshops

We're continuing to run weekly Digital Drop-Ins. These run Saturdays 3-5pm BST and cost just £5. We update the page Monday/Tuesday every week. We've really embraced the challenge of performing and teaching improv comedy online. It's been a privilege to connect with people across the world to spend a bit of time being  silly together.

...And Finally

Thank you for continuing to support comedy online. We can't wait to be back in a theatre or workshop space with you all. But until then, stay home, stay safe and keep laughing!

Online Comedy Course: Stand-Up Comedy

With COVID-19 putting a halt to face-to-face workshops and shows for the foreseeable future, we've been looking at ways to keep going online. We are announcing a 4 week online comedy course starting 20th April 2020!

write and perform great stand-up comedy from your home with this online comedy course

There's absolutely no experience necessary for you to devise your first Stand-Up set whilst sitting down in the comfort of your own home! This exciting online comedy course will look at ways of crafting gags by exploring joke structure and storytelling techniques to hone your comedic voice.

There will be weekly writing exercises as well as regular, friendly feedback on your material and performance. The course is ideal for anyone self-isolating at home and wanting to try their hand at something new.

The classes are limited to just 8 spaces so don't delay and book today! The full cost of the course is just £75*. We work hard to keep workshops as affordable as possible but don't hesitate to get in touch if you need to set-up an alternative payment plan.

Group sessions will run Monday evenings 7-8pm with one-to-one feedback on Wednesdays.  Visit our Stand-Up Comedy page to book onto this dynamic new online comedy course today.

Live-Stream Laughs and Digital Drop-Ins

We hope everyone is keeping safe and helping to slow the spread of Coronavirus by staying home (where possible). We know things are difficult right now, so if anyone is looking for some laughs, or a distraction from working at home, we are running some digital shows and drop-ins this week.

live streaming comedy to your homes during coronavirus lockdown

We are also live-streaming ComedySportz shows from our houses. We're doing lunchtime shows 12.30-1.30pm on Wednesday 25th and Friday 27th  and an evening show on Saturday 28th at 7pm. If popular we hope to stream more shows in the coming weeks.

We'll be posting the streaming links into the Facebook events shortly before the shows are scheduled to begin. You can add yourself to the Facebook events or subscribe to our YouTube channel (where the shows will be streamed) to get notifications when we go live. We hope at some point to use the technology to do shows with ComedySportz players worldwide!

Shows are free to watch but donations are welcome - with proceeds used to support our players, many of whom are self-employed and have lost paid work due to Coronavirus. Donations are entirely voluntary and there is no obligation.

Online Workshops

online improv classes

This week we are running a Digital Drop-In on Joke based/Pun games. Digital drop-ins will cost just £5 and the first will be 3-5pm on Saturday 28th March. You can register for the class here.

We will then send you a link that will go live shortly before the class starts. We're hosting these classes through zoom so you may want to download their app ahead of time. Its free to set up an account.

We will be adding more in the coming weeks and will continue to review the situation in line with official guidelines. However, it is reasonable to assume that venues will be closed for some time. Of course we hope to be able to host workshops in person soon but these sessions will be a chance to laugh and learn together until then!

If you have any questions about the digital Drop-Ins or shows then please do get in touch. Keep an eye on our social media for regular updates or join our mailing list.

Remember! Keep practicing social distancing. Stay home, save lives, don't touch people's stuff and keep laughing.

COVID-19

We have made the decision to postpone all workshops until April 18th 2020, at which point we will reassess the situation in line with current guidelines. This means the upcoming Stand-Up and Sketch Writing intensives have been postponed as well as our next few drop-in classes.

We're deeply disappointed that we are unable to continue to provide classes during this time but safety of workshop attendees and our players must come first.

If you are interested in taking either the Stand Up or Sketch Writing workshops please drop us an email and we'll be in touch as soon as new dates are confirmed. In the mean time please continue to book a space for our Foundation intensive at the end of April. Rest assured if we have to make the decision to cancel or postpone the workshop we will issue a full refund.

Due to a fluke of scheduling we have very few shows scheduled between now and the 18th April. However we are not outright cancelling shows as we are looking at ways of making them accessible perhaps through live streaming. We will be issuing an update later on this week.
