Special Guest for Improv Mullet

We’re delighted to announce that Nathan Jansen (io, Baby Wants Candy, ComedySportz Chicago) will be joining us for Improv Mullet at the Kings Arms on Saturday 1st September.

Fresh from playing to capacity crowds at the Edinburgh Fringe FestivNathan Jansen al, our team are ready to wow with quick-witted sketches and stories inspired by your suggestions.

Why Improv Mullet? Because it’s short gags and games in the first half and long sketches and scenes in the second half. Free admission to anyone with a genuine mullet.

Nathan will also be leading a one day workshop on Narrative Improv and limited spaces are still available. If you’re looking to build on your Improv skills then don’t miss this opportunity to learn from one of the best! We’re also running a two-day sketch writing course over that weekend and again, limited spaces are still available.

New Workshop Dates!

Our regular 8 week courses in Improvisation and Stand Up (Foundation Improv, Intermediate Improv and Beginning Stand Up Comedy) will return 6th October 2018. Places are already filling up so get in touch ASAP to reserve your space! We’ve changed the payment methods for our workshops meaning you can now pay directly through the website – please bear with us as we iron out any kinks in the system!

If you can’t wait until October we’re running a couple of short courses in September. We’re running a two day Sketch Writing workshop 1-2nd September.

We’re also delighted to be hosting a workshop with Nathan Jansen (iO Chicago, ComedySportz Chicago, Baby Wants Candy) 1st September on Improv Narrative. This is a great opportunity to expand your skills – please note, some previous improv experience necessary.

Finally, we’ll be running a short workshop for kids as part of the 2018 Manchester Literature Festival in October. You can find more about these workshops and book spaces here.

More information on all of our upcoming workshops can be found on our workshops page!

NEW YEAR! NEW GAMES! NEW WORKSHOPS!

Happy New Year from all of us at ComedySportz UK! It’s only a few weeks until our first shows and workshops of 2018 (and all on one day too) and we hope to see you there!

We finished 2017 with a sold-out Saturday of Improvised pantomimes and can’t wait to bring that show back bigger and better later this year. We were also featured by the Guardian in a great piece about the benefits of Improv Workshops on mental health. We’re delighted that our workshops have had such a positive effect on so many people, whatever their reasons for taking a course.

Workshops have a real benefit on those that take them.

We’re back at Waterside Arts 20th January with our now traditional New Year, New Games special as we try out a few new games as well as playing a few fan favourites. Earlier in the day we also have our first ComedySportz 4 Tots show with more BIG laughs for little kids. The week after we’re back at Ramsbottom Civic Hall for more all ages, all action, all improvised competitive comedy shenanigans!

Anyone with a GENUINE mullet gets in free.

Improv Mullet is moving to The Kings Arms in February to replace Let’s See What Happens. It’s a show that combines the best of our shortform and longform comedy shows and we hope to build the show over the course of the year. To help promote the show, anyone with a GENUINE mullet gets in for free!

Our workshops in Improv, Stand Up and Sketch Writing return this month as well. If you made a new years resolution to laugh more, to play more, to build confidence, learn new skills that can be used both on and off stage, sharpen your comedic voice, brush up on those presentation skills or just to make new friends then we have workshops for you! Spaces are filling up fast so be sure to visit our workshops page for more information today.

Whatever your reason for taking a class with us you’ll receive expert tutelage and have plenty of fun along the way!

We’ve got plenty planned for 2018 and can’t wait to share it all with you!

Improvised Radio Play for RNIB

Join us on Friday 10th November at the Kings Arms for an improvised radio play to raise money for the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

The format, called a BAT, is performed in complete darkness and audience members are also encouraged to close their eyes to get the full experience. Performers will create character and sound effects using only their voices as they improvise a radio play inspired by an audience suggestion. Straddling comedy and drama, the show promises to be like nothing you’ve experienced before where anything could happen.

There will also be cakes available for all and proceeds will go to the Royal National Institute for the Blind which has been providing practical and emotional support for those with sighting loss since 1868.

Entry costs only £3 and donations will also be gratefully accepted.

Comedy, charity and cake. What’s not to love?
