It's nearly time for our next batch of workshops in improv and stand-up comedy! Starting on the 21st of September, classes run Saturday afternoons for eight sessions. Your teachers are all professional performers with nearly 25 years experience in live comedy. Our comedy courses have appeared in The Guardian, The Stage and Cosmo UK. What are you waiting for? Book a space on a comedy course with The Totally Improvised Company today!
UPDATE: Our Beginning Stand-Up course is now FULL. Get in touch to be added to our waiting list. There are just a handful of spaces left on Foundation Improv! Last chance to book for 2024! Original post continues below...
We still have some spaces left on our next Foundation Improv course. Always wanted to try comedy but not sure if improv is right for you? Here are just some of the reasons people have taken one of our comedy courses in the past:
Whatever your reason for taking a comedy course, these fun and friendly classes are a great way to build confidence, unlock creativity and make new connections. We have always worked hard to keep our prices affordable and we also have two scholarship spaces left for global majority applicants. Find out more here.
Already have some improv experience and looking to expand on your skill set? We are delighted to announce the schedule for our next batch of Intermediate Improv classes. You can still book onto the full course or attend on a drop-in basis (the first drop-in is now live). Find out more here.
Getting back into shape after the summer break and warming back into scene work and looking at some fun scene based improv games.
We're lifting up the bonnet to see how our improv engines work. What makes a game tick? What keeps a scene running? How do you get the most mileage from a suggestion? How long can we sustain this metaphor?
Hovering at the side and not sure when to make that big entrance? Or are there other things you can do to support the scene as the ‘extra’ person? This workshop looks at how to play with these ideas to help strengthen those extra character scenes.
Always playing the same characters? Find yourself letting other characters take over scenes? Get out of your comfort characters and go BIG! We'll look at how to make bold choices that are playful, expressive and unexpected without overwhelming the scene.
In this session we'll be giving you different challenges to help you explore different ways to approach your improv. Looking at developing characters with hidden themselves, ways of expressing yourself on stage, and making connections with your scene partner.
How to make your scene partner(s) look great – how to support them, boost their character, the game of the scene. Also group dynamics such as spotlighting, and other stagecraft to support others.
Feel like you always need to fill that silence with dialogue? Connect with your scene partner and the moment in this workshop. We will play with silent moments, and sitting in that mood and reaction. Open yourself up to a world of subtlety and genuine response.
It's the last day of term and that means games! Combining everything we've covered in previous sessions, we'll be putting everything into practice as we teach you short-form games for the Intermediate Workshop Showcase. Who knows, we might even make up some games on the day!
There are just TWO spaces left on the next stand-up comedy course. We are also delighted to announce that Martin Mor will be returning to run a masterclass during the course. With over 30 years experience as a professional performer, Martin has established himself as one of the UK’s most popular and in-demand comedians.
Martin has performed successfully at events of all description; from the Hammersmith Apollo to a show for the inmates of an Italian prison, from comedy clubs to performing in some of the most unique, and unusual locations. We are excited that Martin will once again be returning to work with our workshoppers on their material and stage craft. Find out more here.
