January 2022 Shows with ComedySportz

Happy New Year from all at ComedySportz! Kickstart your 2022 with some fun and laughter at our live and livestream shows this January. We also have our upcoming 8 week courses in improv and stand-up comedy - more details below!

We're starting things off with the return of our monthly online ComedySportz matches. These shows are free to watch - though donations are gratefully received. You can catch the next match on Saturday 8th January (shows will return to the first Saturday of every month from February). The stream goes live at 6.45pm GMT with the fun kicking off at 7pm.

If you're looking for live laughs you can catch ComedySportz and ComedySportz 4 Tots at Waterside Arts on Saturday 29th January.  Join us for another New Year, New Games show as our teams go for comedy gold with a mix of games new and old (ooh that rhymes). It may be a new year but ComedySportz is still the number one show for all action, all improvised fun and laughter! Meanwhile, our Tots show will be jam packed with more silly songs, stories and mayhem for kids aged 6 and under.

Looking for our Adults Only shows? Unfortunately we've had to cancel our Totally Improvised Musical for January but we'll be back on Tuesday 15th February - whether you're on a date or looking for laughs in all the wrong places you won't want to miss this show when it returns next month!

However and wherever you're celebrating this Christmas, we hope you do so with plenty of festive fun and laughter.  Whilst this past year has not been without it's challenges and there is still uncertainty going into 2022, we hope you have managed to find ways to keep laughing and adapted to these times with a positive "Yes, And" attitude. Comedy Workshops - New Dates for 2022!

Our first face-to-face courses for 2022 are on sale now. Join Manchester's longest running comedy workshops to get creative, build confidence and make new connections. Learn the core skills of an improviser in this 8 week course. Sessions cover the basics including: "Yes, And", Listening, Characters, Storytelling, Objects, Scenes and Games. Whether you're looking to learn new performance skills, get confident in communicating and teamwork or just want to have fun and play, this course is for you! The course returns 6th February 2022 and runs Sundays 2-4pm at Gorse Hill Studios. Intermediate Improv Course

Continue to develop your improv skills with this course looking at more advanced skills including scene work, character development and more. Kids Improv Course

We're sharing our skills with the next generation of comedy superstars with this brand new improv comedy course for kids aged 8-12 years. Learn the core skills of improv, get creative, build confidence and get a free T-Shirt! The classes end in a special show for friends and family. Beginning Stand-Up Comedy Course

Learn the core skills to develop and perform your own comedic material. Returning 5th February 2022, sessions will run Saturdays 12.30-2.30pm at The Barking Dog, Urmston. This 8 week course will cover a variety of topics including how to craft jokes, explore personas and discover your voice, develop good mic technique and how to approach venues for gigs. We provide a fun and supportive environment to try out new material with regular feedback. ComedySportz returns to Chorley Youth Theatre

We played our first ComedySportz Match in 2001 as part of Chorley Youth Theatre. Now we’re back at Chorley Theatre on Friday 19th November to celebrate twenty years of laughs. As part of the celebrations, original team founder Brainne Edge and Chorley player Stephen Catterall returned to Chorley Youth Theatre to teach some comedy skills to the next generation of performers.

“It was fantastic to meet the kids who were us over twenty years ago!” says Brainne, who was running the Youth Theatre in 2001. “What a great bunch full of enthusiasm and talent, I'm really hoping some will audition for us in a few years time!”

The team taught the group of young performers some of the skills of comedy improvisation as well as the games we’ve been entertaining audiences with for two decades. Brainne adds, “Improv builds confidence, communication and keeps us playful, even as we get older. These kids had such a natural talent for being in the moment and are very funny. It's the spirit of play and imagination that has kept us going for so long.”

We've got lots of shows and workshops to get you laughing this October with our Halloween Spooktacular, The Improvised Musical, the return of Improv Mullet and the return of in person comedy courses (last few spaces remaining)!

ComedySportz Online Match!

We understand that not everyone can join us for our live improv shows - especially our international fans who have found us through our virtual shows - and we’ll be continuing our online ComedySportz matches on the first Saturday of every month. Subscribe to our youtube channel now to never miss a match. You can watch our September show at the link above. The stream will go live at 6.45pm BST with the fun kicking off at 7pm BST on Saturday 2nd October. Online shows are family friendly and free to watch.

Halloween Spooktacular

Our monthly Waterside Arts shows may be a bit early for Halloween but join us on Saturday October 23rd for some ghoulish gags and games because, well, we just love a theme! We're adding a little pumpkin spice to our shows this month as our teams get the audience screaming with laughter, with spooky sketches and songs inspired by their suggestions. Don’t worry, there’s a referee on hand to issue penalties for bad jokes and bad behaviour - like trying to eat your brains!

We have two shows that day with ComedySportz 4 Tots at 3pm and ComedySportz at 6.30pm. Anyone in fancy dress gets a free treat!

Improv Comedy at The Barking Dog

Improv Mullet returns! We're delighted to be bringing this adults only mixed format improv show to the Barking Dog, Urmston on Thursday 21st October! Why Improv Mullet? Because it's shortform gags and games in the first half and longform scenes and sketches in the second.

There are two tickets types available - £5 entry or £13 for dinner and a show! We can attest that the food is absolutely fantastic.

Please arrive by 7.30pm to order your dinner upon arrival, showing the bar staff your ticket email. The show will start at 8pm. Dinner options are:

Opening Night!

Improvised Musical

And finally we have our Totally Improvised Musical show. Every night is opening night as we compose a brand new musical every show! We're ready to tread the boards, tinkle the ivories and tickle your funny bones with this brand new show.

Join us as we go from suggestion to sensation at The Peer Hat, Manchester on October 26th and November 30th 2021. Tickets cost just £6 and you can book tickets here.
