We hope everyone is keeping safe and helping to slow the spread of Coronavirus by staying home (where possible). We know things are difficult right now, so if anyone is looking for some laughs, or a distraction from working at home, we are running some digital shows and drop-ins this week.
We are also live-streaming ComedySportz shows from our houses. We’re doing lunchtime shows 12.30-1.30pm on Wednesday 25th and Friday 27th and an evening show on Saturday 28th at 7pm. If popular we hope to stream more shows in the coming weeks.
We’ll be posting the streaming links into the Facebook events shortly before the shows are scheduled to begin. You can add yourself to the Facebook events or subscribe to our YouTube channel (where the shows will be streamed) to get notifications when we go live. We hope at some point to use the technology to do shows with ComedySportz players worldwide!
Shows are free to watch but donations are welcome – with proceeds used to support our players, many of whom are self-employed and have lost paid work due to Coronavirus. Donations are entirely voluntary and there is no obligation.
This week we are running a Digital Drop-In on Joke based/Pun games. Digital drop-ins will cost just £5 and the first will be 3-5pm on Saturday 28th March. You can register for the class here.
We will then send you a link that will go live shortly before the class starts. We’re hosting these classes through zoom so you may want to download their app ahead of time. Its free to set up an account.
We will be adding more in the coming weeks and will continue to review the situation in line with official guidelines. However, it is reasonable to assume that venues will be closed for some time. Of course we hope to be able to host workshops in person soon but these sessions will be a chance to laugh and learn together until then!
Quick-witted Improv troupe seeks audience with GSOH for laughter and fun… There will be plenty of love and laughter in the air with our Valentine’s special at Waterside Arts on the 15th February. This year team captains (and real-life couple) Bron and Sean will be going head to head to see who has to pay for their Valentine’s meal this year…
The last time the two went head-to-head like this Bron’s team won …which meant Sean treated her to some (very romantic) chips on the way home. Which team will win this year? You decide!
There will be plenty of funny valentine’s games to get you in the laughing mood. Whether you’re on a first date or just out with mates then this show is guaranteed to get you laughing!
Join us as we go from suggestion to sensation with our Totally Improvised Musical show coming to Manchester this Spring! If you like musicals, this is the show for you. If you like comedy, this is also the show for you!
Every show is opening night as our team of top improvisers compose a brand new musical from your suggestions – hitting all the right notes in any order they like!
Shows will be performed at The Peer Hat (14-16 Faraday Street, M1 1BE Manchester) on 24th March, 28th April and 19th May 2020. Shows start at 7.30pm and will run for 1h15m (approx). Tickets cost just £5 and will be available on the door.
Improvised Musical Workshop in Lancaster
We’re also running a one day Musical Improv workshop in Lancaster on Saturday 29th February! This session will look at techniques for improvising showstopping tunes driven by characters, whilst juggling rhyme, melody and narrative. The workshop is open to all skill levels and singing talents – however some general experience of improv skills is suggested for those taking part. Book a space now or drop us an email if you have any questions about the workshop.
Just a few days into 2020 and we already have plenty lined up for the coming months! We’ve got a full slate of workshops and shows that you won’t want to miss.
We’re back at Waterside Arts in Sale on Saturday 18th January with two great shows. There will be plenty of laughter for all ages. ComedySportz 4 Tots (3pm, £5/£3) is our show for kids aged 6 and under. There will be plenty of games, gigles, silly songs and stories, with plenty of opportunities for kids to get involved in this highly interactive show. Then we have our New Year, New Games ComedySportz Special (6.30pm, £8/£6) with plenty of never before seen games – who knows, we might even make something up on the night… Have our teams gone for comedy gold? Book now to decide who wins!
Take a course with us!
If you’re looking to try your hand at comedy then we have a fantastic programme of workshops coming up. We still have space on our 8 week Foundation in Improv and Beginning Stand-Up Comedy courses. If you’re looking to start the year by embracing uncertainty, finding your voice and rediscovering your playful side might we recommend a comedy course with us? We also have our returning Advanced Improv Drop-Ins (more classes to be announced soon) and our one day Presentation Skills workshop. If you have a public speaking engagement this year, whether its a business presentation or wedding speech, you won’t want to miss this workshop.
…And Much More Still To Come!
For 2020 we’ve taken the decision to rest Improv Mullet at The Kings Arms. We’re hoping to tour ComedySportz and gig more outside of Manchester as the year goes on.
We do however have a brand new show coming to the Peer Hat in March! From suggestion to sensation our players will compose a brand new musical from your suggestions – hitting all the right notes in any order they like! If you like musicals, this is the show for you. If you like comedy, this is also the show for you… More details coming soon.

Ghoulish gags and games abound in our Halloween special at the end of the month. Players will be adding a little pumpkin spice to our usual family friendly show as teams get you screaming with laughter with spooky sketches and songs inspired by your suggestions.
Instead of the red and blue team this month it’ll be the Dead and Boo teams vying for your laughs with special themed games. Don’t worry though, there’s still a referee on hand to issue penalties for bad jokes and bad behaviour – like trying to eat your brains!
It’ll be great fun for the whole family this Halloween with treats for any audience members in fancy dress. Who wins? You decide!
For families with younger kids there is also ComedySportz 4 Tots at 3pm with plenty of big laughs for little kids.
Our Halloween special is always lots of fun and just the start of a fantastic autumn/winter line up of shows. Don’t miss our 18th Birthday weekend on 16th November with shows at Waterside Arts and Chorley Little Theatre – more details coming soon. Then, in December, our Improvised Pantomimes return with shows at Waterside Arts and The Palace Cinema in Longridge!
