Lockdown Laughs for LGBTQ+ Charities

This Saturday (13th June 2020) we’re hosting an international all-star show of LGBTQ+ ComedySportz players to raise money for two fantastic organisations: The Proud Trust and Rainbow Noir.

Raising money for the Proud Trust with ComedySportz

Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do and we believe coming together to play and have fun is the best way to build bridges. We’re delighted to be bringing LGBTQ+ ComedySportz players together from Manchester UK to the west coast of America for this very special online show.

“CSz has always been about bringing the fun and making accessible shows for EVERYONE. That’s why I’m proud that we do PRIDE,” says ComedySportz player Kate McCabe.

ComedySportz has been performing shows online since lockdown went into effect and have been relying on audience donations to support players. For this show however the team are urging audiences to donate to support The Proud Trust and Rainbow Noir, a support group for LGBTQ+ people of colour.

As Braínne, ComedySportz player and manager, explains, “We’re keeping the shows free because we believe representation matters and we don’t want people to miss out on the show if they couldn’t afford to watch, however we will be asking audience members to support our chosen charities if they can afford to do so.”

The Proud Trust is a life-saving and life enhancing organisation that helps LGBT+ young people empower themselves, to make a positive change for themselves, and their communities. Donate here.

Rainbow Noir is a volunteer lead social, peer support and community action group, which celebrates and platforms people of colour who identify as LGBTQ+. Donate here.

The stream will go live on our youtube channel on Saturday 13th June from 7pm BST.  Visit our shows page for a full schedule of upcoming online events.

ComedySportz Rewatch Series

Remember the before times when we could all be in theatres together? Those were good times weren’t they? We’re continuing to livestream online shows every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday but we’re also going to start sharing full versions of older shows filmed  every Monday at 7pm BST.

We’re starting the series with our 2018 Anniversary match filmed at Chorley Little Theatre. You can watch along and join in the chat with some of our players. Check out the video below and hit the button to get a reminder – don’t forget to subscribe to our youtube channel and never miss a show!

Our players and fans have picked a really exciting line-up of memorable shows that we hope you’ll enjoy watching again (or for the very first time).

ComedySportz All-Star Weekend

We may still be self-isolating but this weekend ComedySportz teams are more connected than ever with the ComedySportz All-Star Weekend! Don’t miss this international weekend of all action, all star improv fun.

ComedySportz Worldwide

Manchester will be hosting the first show at 7pm BST joined by players from CSz Maine, CSz Indianapolis, CSz Austin and CSz Seattle. Later in the evening (or early in the morning depending where you live) some of our Manchester players will be playing with CSz Buffalo, CSz Richmond and CSz Boston (Times Vary).  For a full line-up of shows visit CSz Worldwide today!

You can watch all of ComedySportz UK’s online matches at our youtube channel but please not different teams are hosting shows in different ways. For a full schedule of upcoming ComedySportz UK online shows visit our shows page.

An Evening With ComedySportz… Meet The Players!

Join us on Friday evening for an evening with ComedySportz UK. Players will be looking back over 18 years of laughs that we’ve shared with audiences all over the world. With the world in isolation we thought this would be a good opportunity to connect with our audience. We will talk about the history of our shows, share some improv knowledge, tell a few stories and answer your questions.

ComedySportz UK entertaining audiences since 2001

This fun and friendly event will stream on our youtube channel from 7pm BST on Friday 1st May. If you miss it you’ll still be able to watch it later – as well as our other livestream shows. So far we’ve done over 20 shows online since lockdown began in the UK. We’ve loved sharing a much needed laugh with people all over the world and hope you can join us for more.

And if 7pm is a little past your bedtime, don’t miss our lunchtime livestream laughs at 12.30pm BST!

We hope you’ll enjoy spending an evening with ComedySportz! If you’d like to read up a little on the history of our shows yourself then check out our history page. Finally, if you’d like to support our players on lockdown check out our brand new T-Shirt campaign and snag some sweet CSz swag.

UPDATE:

You can now watch this event here. It was lots of fun to chat with the audience and share some stories.

Live-Stream Laughs and Digital Drop-Ins

We hope everyone is keeping safe and helping to slow the spread of Coronavirus by staying home (where possible). We know things are difficult right now, so if anyone is looking for some laughs, or a distraction from working at home, we are running some digital shows and drop-ins this week.

live streaming comedy to your homes during coronavirus lockdown

We are also live-streaming ComedySportz shows from our houses. We’re doing lunchtime shows 12.30-1.30pm on Wednesday 25th and Friday 27th  and an evening show on Saturday 28th at 7pm. If popular we hope to stream more shows in the coming weeks.

We’ll be posting the streaming links into the Facebook events shortly before the shows are scheduled to begin. You can add yourself to the Facebook events or subscribe to our YouTube channel (where the shows will be streamed) to get notifications when we go live. We hope at some point to use the technology to do shows with ComedySportz players worldwide!

Shows are free to watch but donations are welcome – with proceeds used to support our players, many of whom are self-employed and have lost paid work due to Coronavirus. Donations are entirely voluntary and there is no obligation.

Online Workshops

online improv classes

This week we are running a Digital Drop-In on Joke based/Pun games. Digital drop-ins will cost just £5 and the first will be 3-5pm on Saturday 28th March. You can register for the class here.

We will then send you a link that will go live shortly before the class starts. We’re hosting these classes through zoom so you may want to download their app ahead of time. Its free to set up an account.

We will be adding more in the coming weeks and will continue to review the situation in line with official guidelines. However, it is reasonable to assume that venues will be closed for some time. Of course we hope to be able to host workshops in person soon but these sessions will be a chance to laugh and learn together until then!

If you have any questions about the digital Drop-Ins or shows then please do get in touch. Keep an eye on our social media for regular updates or join our mailing list.

Remember! Keep practicing social distancing. Stay home, save lives, don’t touch people’s stuff and keep laughing.
